The Seasons:
- January to March: The predator season is in full swing as calving occurs in the southern Serengeti. This attracts big cats like lions, cheetahs, and leopards, making it an ideal time for action-packed game drives. The weather is warm, with occasional short rains that refresh the landscape.
- April to May: Known as the green season, this is the time of long rains. While the terrain is lush and vibrant, wildlife viewing is still excellent, and parks are less crowded. It’s a great time for photography and for enjoying discounted rates at lodges.
- June: As the rains subside, the dry season begins, and wildlife gathers around water sources, making it easier to spot animals. The cooler weather adds to the comfort of game drives.
- July to October: Peak safari season coincides with the Great Migration in the Serengeti. Witness massive herds crossing the Mara River and predators on the hunt. Clear skies, minimal rainfall, and abundant wildlife make this period unforgettable.
- November: Short rains return, rejuvenating the landscapes and reducing crowds. Wildlife remains active, and the rains often come as brief, refreshing showers, allowing for plenty of game-viewing opportunities.
- December: The dry season resumes, and wildlife activity increases. The predator season begins again as herds gather in the Serengeti, setting the stage for thrilling encounters. With festive cheer in the air, December is an excellent time to celebrate the holidays in the wilderness.
